OUR SIZING
We feel that it is very important for a garment to fit you correctly, so we have put together a guide to help you find your perfect size.

HOW TO MEASURE
Take care not to pull the tape measure tight; measure over your underwear and try to be honest!

BUST
Place the tape measure around the fullest part of the bust and straight across your back. Ask a friend to help - it will make the job a lot easier!

WAIST
Place the tape measure loosely around the waist, as it is important that your finished garment is not too tight in this area.

WRAP STITCH
A wrap stitch is used to eliminate the hole created when using the short row shaping method. Work to the position on the row indicated in the pattern, wrap the next st (by slipping next st onto right needle, bringing yarn to front of work between needles and then slipping same st back onto left needle – on foll rows, K tog the loop and the wrapped st) and turn, cont from pattern.

BEADING
Getting started

Before starting to knit, thread beads onto the yarn. To do this, thread a fine sewing needle (one that will easily pass through the beads) with sewing thread. Knot the ends of the thread and then pass end of yarn through this loop. Thread a bead onto sewing thread and then gently slide it along and onto knitting yarn. Continue in this way until the required number of beads are on yarn.

Placing a bead
Bead 1 = place a bead by bringing yarn to front (RS) of work and slipping bead up next to stitch just worked, slip next stitch purlwise from left needle to right needle and take yarn back to back (WS) of work, leaving bead sitting in front of slipped stitch on RS.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS
YARNS

Follow the care instructions printed on each individual ball band. Where different yarns are used in the same garment, follow the care instructions for the more delicate one.

ROWAN DENIM
Rowan Denim has been a very popular yarn for many years. It is not only a very attractive yarn but also hard wearing and practical. A garment knitted in Rowan Denim is machine washable making it ideal for all age groups.

Rowan Denim, as with other indigo dyed textiles, fades and ages with washing and wearing. During the unconventional dyeing process only the surface of the yarn is dyed leaving the core white. Most of the colour loss takes place during the first wash when all the loose dye is washed out exposing the core. The knitted pieces will also shrink in length during the first wash. This tightens up the knitting, adding emphasis to cables and texture giving the finished garment its unique look.

Rowan Denim is available in four shades; Nashville, Memphis, Tennessee and Ecru. The Ecru which is un-dyed will not change colour but like the other shades will shrink during the first wash.

As with all knitting patterns it is essential to achieve the tension given at the beginning of each pattern i.e. proper shrinkage will not take place if the garment is knitted too loosely in the first place. It is important that you use a pattern specially written for the Rowan Denim, where allowances have been made for shrinkage. Because the dye is only a surface dye, during knitting the colour will come off onto your hands. This will wash off very easily but it is advisable to protect your clothing or wear something dark.

When you have completed knitting all the garment pieces refer to your pattern for the making up instructions, these usually are as follows; sew the shoulder seams together and complete the neckband or collar and buttonbands where appropriate. The next stage is to wash all the pieces together in the washing machine at a temperature of 60 – 70 degrees C so that shrinkage can take place. The pieces are then dried and can be sewn together. It is not essential but we do suggest that you wind some of the yarn into a small hank and wash this along with the pieces, it can then be used for sewing up.

BUTTONS
As our pearl buttons are made from a natural material they should not be subjected to heat or moisture, so we recommend that they be removed from your garment before washing, dry cleaning or pressing.

SILK FABRIC
Silk ribbons should be dry cleaned only.
